Funeral

Funerals are high up on my list of events I do not enjoy shooting. But when a prominent member of the community, civil rights leader and beloved pastor dies, his funeral becomes a news event. The church members were so inviting, and I did my best to cover it with respect. This photo was one of my favorites.

Premont

Senior Luis "Yayo" Torres shuffles across the gym floor Jan. 4, 2012 as members of the Cowboys basketball team go through practice drills in their gym in Premont, Texas. The school district has decided to cut athletics once basketball season ends in an effort to cut costs and help save their district from closure by the Texas Education Agency.(AP Photo/Corpus Christi Caller-Times, Michael Zamora)

The story of little old Premont has hit the AP wires. One of the reporters at the paper here has been following the town's story and possible closure of the school district since this summer, and I've tried my best to ride her coat tails and stalk some of the people of Premont. On Friday AP asked me for some sports photos from Premont, and I was thrilled to see some of my pictures popping up around the globe over the weekend. The one above is one of my recent favorites.

Stuck in the Middle

For a story about the difference in the old and new housing projects built by the local housing authority. I normally don't like when a subject is kind of staring at me. I had a couple of options where she wasn't, but in this case there was something about it that drew me in.

Parade

Everybody loves a parade.

Except me.

But I'm not gonna complain if I can come away with photos like this.

Nah, I'll probably still complain.
